Tips On Conceiving

Hypothyroidism and Conceiving Tips/Advice?
I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism a little over a year ago. I am now taking Levothyroxine .125 mg daily and due for another followup on August 18th to check if I need another increase. I’m not on any birth control and sexually active but have not yet conceived. Does anyone have any tips to increase our chances? I am only 25 yo but my son is 9 and I feel it’s time for another. I did use an IUD but was told that after 3-5 months of removing it I should be good to go. It’s already been longer than that. If I do conceive is there anything I should look out for? Am I having a difficult time because of my Hypothyroidism?
I do plan on sharing and discussing any thoughts and ideas (and any I get here) with my doctor but I don’t really know where to start.
Thank you all.
I was hypo before both pregnancies. Both kids were born full term and healthy.
The best thing is to make sure your TSH is between 1.0 and 2.0. Also, check your Free T4. That should be in the upper half of the range. So if the range for Free T4 at your lab is 1.0 to 2.0, you’ll want Free T4 at least 1.5.
Hypothyroidism can make you not ovulate. Use some ovulation predictor kits (OPK) to make sure that you are in fact ovulating.
With both pregnancies, I charted my temperatures. There’s a book called Taking Charge of your Fertility by Toni Weschler. Until I read that book, I had no idea how to watch my cycle. If you go to fertilityfriend.com you can use a free online tool to chart/track your cycle. This will help you know when you’re ovulating and the best time to try to conceive.
I had really long cycles (40 days) so I only ovulated about 25 days after my last period.
That’s pretty much it. If you’re thyroid is under control and you’re in fact ovulating and there’s no other health issues, you should be fine.
Best of luck.
